The Gluten-Free Brand Guide

Stop reading every label twice in the aisle.

You know the routine: phone in one hand, a jar in the other, one bar of signal, trying to remember which brand was the safe one. A ten-minute shop takes forty — and you still get home unsure.

The traps a quick glance misses

  • ✗Milk and dark Lindor list barley malt — and the allergen line only says “milk”.
  • ✗Ferrero Rocher's shell is a wheat wafer.
  • ✗Some “wheat-free” breads are made with spelt — which is wheat.
  • ✗One taco seasoning brand contains wheat; another, on the same shelf, says it is gluten-free.

This guide puts all 257 foods we have researched in one printable book, aisle by aisle: the verdict, the brands to buy, the brands to skip — and wherever we checked, the maker's own words with the link (270 quotes in this edition). Shop from a list instead of a guess.

What's in it

257 foods, aisle by aisle

Organized the way you walk a supermarket, across 18 aisles, from bread and baking to drinks. Each food opens with a clear verdict: gluten-free, it depends, or contains gluten.

The brands to buy — and to avoid

Named safe picks and named brands to skip, so you are not decoding a label in the aisle when you do not have to.

The makers’ own words

For 80 foods, 270 quotes copied word for word from the brand’s own website, with the address, and the date we checked.

A printable shopping checklist

Every named safe brand, grouped by aisle with tick boxes. Print it, take it to the store, still read the label.

The holiday table

Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas in menu order — turkey, gravy, stuffing, pie crust, ham, candy canes, latkes — with the safe picks for each.

What the big chains say

P.F. Chang’s, Papa John’s, Red Lobster, Wingstop and more, condensed from each chain’s own allergen guide.

Three entries, exactly as they appear

Shortened for this page. In the book, each entry also lists the label traps and every source.

Lindt Lindor

Contains gluten

No. Milk and dark Lindor truffles list barley malt powder, which contains gluten, even though the allergen line only says milk. White Lindor is the exception.

Safe picks

  • White Chocolate LINDOR Truffles (made without gluten ingredients, not labeled gluten-free)

Avoid

  • Milk Chocolate LINDOR Truffles
  • Dark Chocolate LINDOR Truffles
“soy lecithin (emulsifier), barley malt powder, artificial flavors Allergens: milk.” — Lindt USA Milk Chocolate LINDOR Truffles — ingredients

Chicken Broth

It depends

It depends on the brand. Swanson and Pacific say their chicken broth is gluten-free, but Campbell's condensed broth may contain wheat and some bouillon cubes contain it.

Safe picks

  • Swanson Chicken Broth
  • Pacific Foods Organic Free Range Chicken Broth

Avoid

  • Campbell's Condensed Chicken Broth (may contain wheat)
  • Signature Select Chicken Bouillon Cubes
“Gluten-free and made with non-GMO ingredients, it contains no added MSG” — Swanson Chicken Broth (Campbell's product page)

Corn Tortillas

Gluten-free

Yes, when they are all corn. Mission says its corn tortillas are certified gluten free. Some "corn" tortillas blend in wheat flour, so read the label.

Safe picks

  • Mission Corn Tortillas

Avoid

  • La Tortilla Factory Hand Made Style Tortillas, White Corn & Wheat
  • Flour tortillas

What this guide will not do

It will not promise a brand is safe forever. Recipes change and the same brand differs by country, so every entry is dated and says why a food is risky. The label in your hand is the final word — this guide tells you what to look for and what the makers said when we checked.
